The gold Dome of the Rock was built over the
site where Muslims believe the Prophet
Muhammad ascended to heaven. This day I
wanted to photograph the sun's final rays striking
the gold dome. I climbed the old city wall, sat
near the Damascus Gate, and for over an hour
waited for sunset with my camera on my tripod.
Israeli guards with Uzis slung over their shoulders
would occasionally glance in my direction, but
mostly ignored me. I got the photo and was off
